	The father of Hole bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur has passed away at home in Montreal Tuesday after a 16-month bout with cancer. Nick Auf Der Maur was a well known columnist, author and activist in his native Canada. Daughter Melissa, his only child, was at his bedside. She grew up in her father's spotlight; she was often featured in his columns and political campaigns. The senior Auf Der Maur made headlines in Melissa's world late in 1996 when he got into an altercation with Hank Harrison, the estranged father of Courtney Love. The two came to blows on a Montreal stage during a "who killed Kurt" lecture featuring Harrison. Nick Auf Der Maur would have been 56 on Friday.
